The results are as follows: (1) during the New Year Holiday, 17,200 tourists were received by 38 travel agencies in 14 cities under monitoring, a drop of 4.1% compared to the same period last year, and the revenue thereof totaled RMB30.502 million, a slight increase of 0.5%. (2) 27,100 tourists were received by 42 star-rated hotels in the 15 cities under monitoring, a slight increase of 0.8% compared to the same period last year, and the income thereof totaled RMB17.244 million, an increase of 2.9 %. (3) 660,000 tourists visited 45 scenic spots (sites) in the 15 cities under monitoring, up by 18.3% compared to the same period last year, and the income thereof totaled RMB83.522 million, an increase of 19.4%. (4) The operating revenues of 29 businesses in 10 cities under monitoring totaled RMB1.357 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 35.0%.
The monitoring result indicates that except for the slight decrease in the number of tourists received by travel agencies, all other major business indicators increased to some extent. Especially for those enterprises operating in scenic spot related businesses, both the number of tourists received and the revenue thereof increased by almost 20%, reflecting the change of people%26rsquo;s choice of travel mode from participating in tourist groups organized by travel agencies to self-service (self-drive) travel. Variation in the number of tourists received by travel agencies can no longer mirror the overall conditions of the tourist market. Massive increase in sales revenue of businesses reflects the outstanding role of the long holiday system in boosting domestic demand and spurring consumption.
