More Mainland Residents Encouraged to Travel Around Hong Kong as “individual tothe to and in of HK as central government mainland

News from Xinhua (reported by Li Hanfang)---Before finishing his work report to the central government in Beijing, HKSAR Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-Kuen held a press conference on December 19, elaborating on the 14 supportive measures of the central government to help Hong Kong tide over the international financial crisis. These measures includes 7 aspects such as encouraging more mainland residents to travel around Hong Kong as %26ldquo;individual tourists%26rdquo;, and deepening the open of mainland service sector to HK.


Individual mainland tourists to HK: permanent residents in Shenzhen but not registered in Guangdong can apply a license in Shenzhen about travelling to HK as an %26ldquo;individual tourist%26rdquo;. For those residents who are registered in Shenzhen, they can apply a multiple endorsement to travel in HK. On top of that, the central government is studying the possibility to make more mainland cities covered in the new policy.


In deepening the open of mainland service sector to HK: relevant departments of the central government will have a joint research and discussion with HKSAR Government in a short time to sign a CEPA (6) agreement at an early date in the next year.


The supportive measures of the central government also include strengthening financial cooperation between HK and the Mainland, speeding up the infrastructure construction related to HK and economic cooperation between HK and Pan Pearl River Delta Area, alleviating the pressure of those medium-sized and small enterprises funded by HK investors and ensuring safe and steady supply of food, water and natural gas to HK.


According to the Chief Executive, these measures benefit not only Hong Kong, but also the national development as a whole. He said, as encouraged by President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao, HK is sure to overcome difficulties and maintain its economic prosperity and sustained development due to its rich talent resources, powerful financial strength and the government%26rsquo;s experience in dealing with crisis.
